The Diva Blog

Diva As you can imagine, as the fashion diva that I am, they ask, “Diva dahling tell me what's in this season? Is it large frames or small frames? Is it oversized (satellite sized) or petite? Round or oval?” And on and on.

Here's my list for 2010 and I'm no slouch when it comes to predicting fashion trends! As you probably already know, two years ago, I predicted the retro styles in eye wear you now see so popular! It's something weird about me that I've always been able to do. Perhaps it's because to predict fashion one has to be a good historian plus it helps to be hip and chic and surround yourself with such. No, no I'm not talking of what I called the wannabe fabulous those with that slinky persona and cocktail lounge voices and faux wealth. Chic has nothing to with money, in my opinion. Chic is having a certain panache and cleverness about you that you "get it."

Here's what's out or on its way out in my professional opinion: eye wear with wide temples especially in dark colors, which always created a certain mask like quality, which wasn't always flattering, unless you're some masked crusader, incognito, and are about to pull out your hidden cape at the next world crisis! Then leave them behind and let's move fashion forward.

What else is out of style? Conforming to others expectations of you fashion wise! Set your own style. If you don't think I got a few stares in my day think again. But, isn't it better to express yourself than to repress yourself? I work with women everyday and yes, honey, it's shocking to hear beautiful women expressing their feelings of unease over their looks, their outfits and their makeup. These are beautiful women, in my eyes, each and every one, but alas, beauty is an internal process not external.

Dare to be different. That's my prediction for 2010 and beyond. Young and old alike seem to be in unison in trying eye wear that's both functional and creative. Lines like Yabi from Germany and Ziggy from Quebec are hot sellers as well as traditional lines like Fendi and Gucci. Gone are the days of one pair of glasses for every occasion. At Fashion Optical-The Art of Eye Wear we try to keep the prices low enough that anyone can afford to have more than one look. In fact, typically, when you buy more than one pair of glasses we generally increase the size of your discount on the second or third pair if you're not using insurance, of course. I bet you didn't know that little secret did you?

Future trends? Think colors for this year and beyond! Green in eye wear, in both color and ecology is on the move. With eye wear made of recycled material, like many of the lines we feature in the store. Colors like purple, wild berry, scarlet red, and brilliant gold acetates are a hot trend picking up speed in both sunglasses and optical.

Vintage vs. futuristic? I predict vintage will continue to be the fashion for now and until we finally, as we always do, heave a collective vomit of it. We simply wear fashion until someone decides we've had enough and signals to the troops, "it's time to move on."

Ok, so Diva, how do I look fashionable on a budget of...let's say nearly nothing? First of all try not to "look" anything but yourself. Yes it's been a while, but, the Diva has traveled that road of trying to squeeze the proverbial nickel, but, I highly recommend shopping places like Goodwill and Genesis Women’s Shelter Retail Outlet. There are so many others. The monies go to a great cause and you'd be amazed at what famous designers your eyes can scout out. Me? I just scan a rack and I'm gone. Yeah I've done that much shopping I can stand in the doorway and know whether I want anything in here or not! Who has time to waste?

Waste not your time shopping other opticals, Fashion Optical is the real deal and is like no other! We've noticed other optical copying us from our hugely successful fashion shows at the W Hotel and more. Fashion Optical once a closely held secret of the cheap chic and uber-rich elite of Dallas ,but, now the secret is out! With over two million dollars in sales and one the highest volume optical stores in Texas we must be doing something right!

Accept this as your invitation to come in and if nothing else just look around, try on glasses and experience what everyone has come to love about this place, it's such fun!

Much love darlings,

The Diva
